Neighboring shops on the same street in York city center are closing
Two neighboring stores in a key shopping street in York have closed.
Both Space NK and Accessorize have closed up shop and emptied.
That leaves two empty stores side by side on Davygate, still considered one of the city’s best shopping streets.
Space NK closed for the last time on Saturday (September 24). She sold luxury beauty products.
A note on its website directed shoppers to its online store and to stores in Harrogate, Beverley and Leeds.
Accessorize, the well-known chain for bags, jewelry, shoes and more, was emptied, with boxes awaiting collection.
There’s a note in the window that says, “The store is closed. Monsoon Accessorize on Coney Street is open as usual.
Accessorize on Davygate was first threatened with closure in the spring of 2020 – when Monsoon Accessorize went into administration and closed its Monks Cross branch.
However, he remained commercial. And the channel turned a profit last year after being taken over by management by founder Peter Simon.
Davygate has seen a fair turnover of companies recently. Debenhams, Halifax Bank and Laura Ashley have closed.
But jewelers Mappin & Webb are due to open in the old Debenhams store, while Sainsbury’s has also opened a new outlet down the street.
